Capturing the mystery and atmosphere that were first experienced
Emma Semple is a Glasgow based artist and in recent years she has been awarded both the David Cargill Award from the Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts and the Meyer Oppenheim prize from the Royal Scottish Academy.
A fine artist, her work is inspired by her encounters with the natural landscape. Emma is interested in the concept of nature as an event and aims to produce another world, illusionary and meditative spaces into which the audience can escape and contemplate.
Her work produces a similar effect that directly experiencing the landscape and nature has on the human psyche. Her practice consists of a wide range of media: from paper sculptures to embroidery and oil paint, which help to explore the boundaries between the abstract and the representational and also to challenge the viewers' perception of 'traditional' landscape.
